Phi Alpha Theta

Phi Alpha Theta (PAT) is the National History Honor Society.  CU’s chapter meets regularly with the History Club.  For more information about meetings, please write to the club email address, cuhistoryclub@colorado.edu. If you are interested in joining PAT, we welcome your application!  There are numerous benefits to joining PAT, including:

  • Lifetime membership
  • Four issues to PAT’s journal, The Historian
  • Eligibility for prizes and awards
  • Association with the society
  • Opportunity to participate in society conventions

Although anyone can join the History Club, there are some requirements that applicants to PAT must meet.

For undergraduate students, they include:

  • A minimum of 12 credit hours/4 courses in History (undergraduate applicants do not need to be History majors)
  • A minimum GPA of 3.1 in History
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 overall
  • A one-time fee of $40.00

For graduate students, they include:

  • A minimum of 12 credit hours towards a Master’s Degree in History
  • A minimum GPA of 3.5
  • Completion of 30% of residence requirements for a Master’s Degree
  • A one-time fee of $40.00

For more information about PAT, please visit their website at http://phialphatheta.org/

The leadership for PAT is the same as that for the History Club, so the president of the History Club is responsible for ensuring that the applications of all interested students are submitted to PAT.  Applications are handed out at the first meeting of the academic year and are collected at the second meeting.  If you are interested in joining, we ask that you attend these meetings or get in touch with the president through the club email given above in a timely manner.  If you are interested in PAT and the deadline has already passed, please get in touch with the president of the History Club but anticipate not applying until the following academic year.  If you are graduating at the end of the academic year, please get in touch with the president immediately so that your paperwork can be processed; for graduating students, we will make an exception and ensure that, even if the second meeting has passed, you will have the opportunity to join before the end of the current academic year.

Thank you for your interest in Phi Alpha Theta, and we look forward to receiving your application!

If you have any questions, please write to cuhistoryclub@colorado.edu.
